I design and test the structures that will hold up the next generation of timber buildings — from tall urban blocks to seismic-resilient bridges. My work sits at the intersection of structural dynamics, large-scale experimental testing, and European standardization, with the goal of making climate-neutral construction genuinely safe under earthquakes and wind.
Before joining the University of Enna "Kore" as Assistant Professor in February 2025, I worked as Researcher and Lecturer in the Department of Timber Structures and Building Rehabilitation at the University of Kassel (Germany) from 2019 to 2023, and as Assistant Professor of Timber Structures in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Aarhus University (Denmark) from 2023 to 2025.
My research activity focuses on timber structures, with a specific emphasis on panelised structures, timber lateral-load resisting systems and high-performance connections. I have conducted extensive investigations into cross-laminated timber (CLT) structures, timber shear wall systems, floor diaphragms, and innovative connectors, combining experimental, analytical and numerical techniques.
My educational contributions are centred on Timber Structures and Structural Engineering and aim to shape the next generation of structural engineers. My teaching portfolio includes university courses in Timber Structures, Structural Design, Structural Engineering, and Earthquake Engineering, delivered in Italian, English and German across three countries.
I served as an official member of CEN/TC250 SC5 (second-generation Eurocode 5) representing Danish Standards, and I am currently contributing to the revision of Eurocode 8 through the SC8/WG3 working group on timber structures.
I obtained a B.Sc. degree in Construction Engineering from the University of Palermo (Italy) in 2013, followed by an M.Sc. degree cum laude in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin (Italy) in 2016, with a research stay at the University of Trento (2015–2016) to develop the Master's thesis. In 2020, I obtained my Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Enna "Kore".
